WHEN PIGS FLY

We got a visit from the Swine Fairy.

Or not.

We'll never really know. You see, I took my 5 year old daughter into the doctor's office with a fever and was told they aren't even testing for the flu (any kind) at this point--unless you're already in the hospital.

We adore our doctor because she is sooo wonderful with the kids. But man I wish we had answers beyond our dr saying she'd go out on a limb to say that my daughter has the flu. As a Type A with Hypochondria, I need a sure diagnosis and a course of treatment. In this case, the recommended treatment was a fever-reducer and TLC, at least for those who seem to be weathering it well.

All that said, prayers are much appreciated!!!

And here's my question for you: will you and your family be getting the H1N1 vaccine when it becomes available?

I'm praying for your little one and the whole family that it doesn't jump around.

I doubt we will be getting it, I really hate putting more unnatural stuff into our bodies, especially before it's been well, well, well tested!!

I'll probably have to get the flu shot, but I'm not sure if my kids will.

Sorry for the little one. I hope the TLC and Tylenol work. And that you all stay germ free and don't catch it.

Same here! I'm leaning toward no flu shots for me or Little Miss at all. Hubby will get the seasonal one because of his job in the public but I really can't get a peace about giving either to Little Miss - especially the H1N1! Hope your little one feels better soon!!! Why is the doc not testing??

Thanks for the prayers!

I will get the seasonal flu shot for sure, but the H1N1--not really wanting to.

They aren't testing for flu because they are seeing so many cases right now and they are backlogged. Only the most severe are getting tested, plus the doc said that it's not an accurate test anyway.

No, we won't. We've already gotten the regular flu shot; our pediatrician's office said the media is overhyping the swine flu thing. They didn't even mention getting the swine flu vaccine.

I'm so sorry your daugher isn't feeling well. I'll be praying for her healing. Trust God and try not to worry, Mom. :-)

Thanks for the prayers, they must be working!

My two sick kids seem to be ok for now. Still have fevers and mild symptoms, but emphasis on MILD. After watching them today, I can't imagine this is the big bag flu. Either that or God's grace has just been huge :D

Praise God!

By the time the results of the test come back the virus is gone anyway. It doesn't change the treatment plan.

I usually get the regular flu shot. Papa brings them home from the hospital for us. Don't how that'll work this year since I'm not planning to go home this month. I'll get the other one if he says to, but only if he says to.

You'll have to keep us posted on your decision!

No flu shots for our family. We haven't had the flu or the shot in over ten years!!! Best defense against the flu, IMO, is a good immune system and lots of hand washing!

I am so on the fence about shot or no shot. Usually, I don't bother getting one. the one time Himself got the flu shot, he got the flu. Because he got the flu so did I and I was down and out for 3 weeks. Newcast reported that the flu that is going around is Swine (h1N1) as the seasonal flu has not appeared yet.I'm not sure if all the fuss about Swine Flu is media hype fueled by drug compannies. Seems the experts can't decide the course of action either. I blogged this same topic on the same day at http://tinyurl.com/yeponvq
Read through the comments for "expert" info.

Hope your little ones are on the mend.

We definitely have the h1n1 here in our town, but I think it's underreported because they aren't even testing people unless they are hospitalized.

Remember the old days when we only had to worry about West Nile?
