DECEMBER RUSH
This weekend I collapsed on the couch with a sudden rush of December anxiety. In the next two weeks, my oldest has 4 performances, and my littles have 2, and there are rehearsals/practices to go with these (that means I'm chauffeur.) Then there are all the fees associated with said activities. I turned down 2 invitations for events this weekend. Plus I haven't started shopping.
Then the toilet broke.
Visions of plumbers and malls and debit cards pinned me to the couch. Until I had an awesome time of worship Saturday night.
Ahhh..... it's amazing what happens when you have a little bit of alone time with God. The next day my hubby was able to fix the toilet (with a little help from Dad) and then hubby went next door and convinced our neighbor to quit revving the truck for the rest of the afternoon. Absolutely an answer to prayer!
While the worship time didn't solve my organizational dilemmas, as some of our events fall at the same time this week, it did give me a sense of what's important...and what's not. Being in the presence of God opened a new and much needed perspective. After all, some things might fall through the cracks this month, but Jesus still came. His Spirit is still here. It's all good!
How do YOU fight December anxiety?

Glad you were able to relieve some of your anxiety. At the moment, I don't feel that I have any December anxiety. This might be because I don't have lots of the responsibilities that many have, i.e. kids and all the things that go on with them.
I'm sure at some point I will get anxious about something, but hopefully I'll be wise and take some time to worship God in those moments!
Mostly I scream and run around in circles. Sometimes we forget to take the time to listen to the whisper that everything will work out as it should
Oh, yes. This year is especially bad as it's my oldest daughter's 16th birthday on the 13th and I'm trying to organize a surprise sleepover party for her, too. I'm quickly realizing why I don't do surprise parties!!!!!
I'll be praying for you, Georgiana. Chaufering isn't fun!!
I'm so glad our Savior knows exactly when to swoop in and save us. Just when we've had enough, there He is to soothe our spirits and refresh us. I'm so glad the Lord provided you with the loving support you needed.
Georgiana, had to laugh. You've got a great sense of humor, Sweetie.
How do I fight December anxiety? DO NOT GO THERE. Every year, we shorten the to-do list and try to lengthen the You, too (God is our You here) list!
I focus on lots of game time with the fam, movies, rereading of the world-changing gospel story of Christ's birth, meditate on the words of hymns, enjoy friends and family in simple ways, like game night, bring your snacks.
A tree? Not up yet. May not be.
Presents? Still talking about the list. Coffee and scraves sold by an orphanage are gaining stock.
Of course, our kids are 24 and 21. Makes quite a difference, sweetie!!!!!

Shelley, I'm glad you don't have the Dec anxiety!
LOL, CJ--may I join you while you scream and run in circles? Actually, it sounds like fun ;)
Eileen--I am SO with you. Parties are not my forte. Hope you have fun with it when it comes together :D
Sharon, you came up with the exact word, I was soothed. It's wonderful the way He expresses His love when we're teetering on the edge.
Patti, I LOVE game nights and simplicity! Next year I'm going to do the same as you--pare down to the basics and the true meaning.
I don't do December.
No really, no tree up yet. We'll see how it all plays out. I'm trying not to be anxious about it. I'm still rooting for a religious holiday that we can celebrate Christ's birth and then a separate one just for the commercial hoopla.
I hope you schedule works out OK. Saying a little prayer for you.
I LOVE the idea of a separate holiday! Wouldn't that throw everyone for a loop?
We don't have a tree up either ;)
PS. Guess what everyone? We are getting hammered by the snow--tonight's special event was canceled, school for tomorrow is already canceled, and tomorrow night's rehearsal is canceled. LOL! Guess I'm not as busy as I thought....
Now that Narnia (play) has started, we actually have THREE whole nights where everyone is home! And because of recitals, music lessons are canceled. So there are the ups with the downs! The routine is still busy, but are evening are free-er this week and we took advantage of it yesterday by doing a St. Nicholas Day. But I sooo wish schools and recital places will QUIT doing these holiday celebrations!!! Why not an after holiday recital in January! It sort of steals the joy when all the "event" is something else to check off on your to do list! SIGH!
That's such a good point! Different events really have become items on a to-do list, and that's not fair to the kids who have worked so hard. That makes me want to make a bigger effort for them to make it special.
I try to go with the flow, but WOW that's getting harder. I streamlined the decorating, stopped baking for Christmas and started buying from the bakery instead, and we are going to take all of Christmas week off from school.
If that doesn't help with the December anxiety, I'm going to apply serious amounts of chocolate. :)
That's me! I've been eating and NOT exercising. This does not bode well for my girth!
Great idea to take Christmas week entirely off!
