MIXED MARRIAGE & GREAT FOOTBALL

I may have told this story a time or ten. I was born and bred of the Packer clan, raised to believe green and gold were the only colors worth wearing, and that cheese was good. I could recite Vince Lombardi sayings in my sleep. Then it happened....

I married a Viking.

Would this mixed marriage survive? Now, if it's not purple it's not a color, and all I can say is that I'm uber-glad Brett Favre converted too.

This weekend the Vikings take on the Saints for the NFC championship. Talk about a great football weekend! Many a pundit has already predicted a Saints victory, but I'm clinging to hope and confidence in the man who plays with a cape. Good ol' #4, Favre.

(Side note: he was the inspiration for the bad guy in my 3rd book. Not that he's a bad guy--obviously--but his apple-pie looks. Another side note: Kurt Warner was the inspiration behind the book I just finished. Football players make for great "models.")

I once heard a psychologist say that men enjoy sports just for the sake of the sport. Women will tend to enjoy more if she knows something about the players. For example, if you point out a player and say he cheated on his wife, she'll start rooting for him to get knocked on his behind. Or if so-and-so recently had a baby and labored with his wife for 36 hours, then a woman will cheer him on against the other team. In my case, this is entirely true. It's all about the connection.

Question for you: which team do you root for and why? Or do you not watch football...and why?

Vikings fan all the way, since the days of Fran T. and Bud Grant. Always like Brett too and glad he has joined us. He sure has made this season fun again.

My hubby was a Cowboys fan when we married, now he's converted over.

Football is not the top sport in this household (esp. since the Patriots got knocked out of the playoffs) No matter, Spring training begins in a few weeks and then it's baseball season and the Boston Red Sox. I'm not a diehard fan. (I find most sports a jaw cracking yawn) but I sometimes watch the Sox with Himself. It's more the enjoyment of the company than what's on the tube.

Yay, Linda, for being the strong one!

CJ, that is so sweet! Yes, it is about the company. I think that's why my interest in football revived, because I wanted to spend that time with hubby.

SKOL VIKINGS,

Skol Vikings, let's win this game,
Skol Vikings, honor your name,
Go get that first down,
Then get a touchdown.
Rock 'em . . . Sock 'em
Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!
Go Vikings, run up the score,
You'll hear us yell for more. . .

Skol, Vikings, let's go!

Okay, Georgiana. Did you see the picture of my son and I on Facebook, both wearing his Vikings paraphernalia????

He has loved the Vikings for YEARS and I'm in a huge quandary b/c MY HEART is with the Saints (you know I'm an old Louisiana girl)

Hmmm. Football also puts me in a quandry. Since I watched it with my daddy when I was little, I love it but hate some of the ways it has become skewed by the world's values.

Told you more than you ever wanted to know!!!
LOL.

LOL, Betsy, who dat?! Yeah, I seen the signs.

Erica, I wish we could watch the game together. It'd be SO super cool!

Patti, I feel for you on the quandry. There are many things I don't like about pro ball, one of them being the arrogance often on display. LOL, one of us even commented last week about why none of them can walk normal. After they make a tackle (aka do their job) they strut. Ahhh, but can I give it up? Not likely!

Love baseball, then football. But Packers and Vikings? Go Bears!

Bear?! Who dat? LOL!! JK. But I couldn't name a Bears player if you paid me. Maybe I need to branch out.

I'm not a big football fan. Too much noise, though muted I don't mind sitting on the couch while hubby watches as long as I'm doing something else like crocheting! But after a few plays...I'm like "what's the point. This really is a waste of my time."

I do see your point though. If there was a connection, it would make it better. Maybe I should start making up story lines for the players.

And I'm a Giants fan and we always watch Superbowl. But I'm more interested in the snacks than the sacks! Hubby isn't a diehard watcher, too busy, though he does like to catch a game or two a week. His favorite, not sure. Maybe be Dallas?

I'm interested in the snacks, too, Gina! Tell you what, we always watch the Superbowl, but unless it's one of my favorite teams playing (like the Cardinals last year) it's my least favorite game. It really does go back to the "connection" with me. If I haven't a clue who is playing, I couldn't care less, LOL!
