Georgiana's Spin on Conference Prep

And it has nothing to do with writing. After attending two whole conferences, I like to think of myself as somewhat of an expert =P

There's a cornucopia of information out there about designing one-sheets, business cards, and elevator pitches. I want to mention a few things that have helped me in a big way that I will do again over the next few weeks before the ACFW conference.

1. Prayer--this is so amazingly obvious, but it bears mention. Without God's direction, provision, and timing, what's the point?

2. Sleep--In order to be fully ready to participate in activities from early morning breakfast to the late night hubbub you must be rested. It's tempting to push yourself to get every last minute detail in order, but don't. REST!

3. Sleep--LOL! This should really be called 2A. If you're coming from somewhere besides the Central Time Zone, adjust your sleeping patterns. I'm 2 hours behind conference time, which means that if breakfast starts at 7:00 a.m., that's really 5:00 a.m. my time. That means getting up at 4:00 a.m. my time to get ready for breakfast. What kind of nutball does that?

Therefore, the two weeks leading up to conference, I'm slowing readjusting my body clock so it's not a shocker to get up in what is essentially the middle of the night. OK, this morning I didn't fare so well, but the point is that I'm trying!

4. Vitamins and cold prevention. This is the time of year that my children hack and have the sniffles. A changing of the season will do that. Sometimes it's best not to get to kissy-kissy with those lil' boogers (haha, seriously no pun!) and take all my vitamins, and eat healthy, to stay strong. Just say no to germs!

5. And finally....lists. This is hugely important if you are leaving a family at home. My life runs on list after list. My husband will be shocked when he sees the schedule, but I want to prepare him well in advance for gymnastics, soccer practice, games, and a host of activities that fall under "other."

There you have it, my top five things to do while preparing for conference. Have I forgotten anything? What do you do before going away on an important trip?

ROFL! The pun, intended or not, was hilarious! LOLOL

Such good advice. I don't really have anything to add to this, I'm going to just try to follow the advice. :) (Especially the boogers part.)

Hahaha. Great tips. I will miss ya'll this year. Hope you all come back inspired and renewed. Pray I will feel the same through a different method that God provides at home.

Another tip - practice. Practice that pitch so you don't feel self conscious and you can confidently explain your storyline.

Rest is so important. So many times we become overwhelmed by the future, when all we really need is a little rest and some faith.
