THE JOY OF CREATION

Last night my 6-year-old daughter started writing her first book. We stapled the pages together and she sat down with her pencil and an idea.

First she came up with a title, World of Crimes. Then her sweet face illuminated as she decided that our family should be the main characters, who go around the world fighting crime. She hammered out the first paragraph (by this time she was topping my word count) and then decided that the end should be very exciting. Amazing how, even at 6, she has a sense of story ;)

Watching her reminded me of my early writing days. As a child I created simply for the joy of creation. When I started writing seriously the joy was almost enough to make one giddy. As the years passed, the joy morphed into a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. As great as those two emotions are...

I want my joy back! That pure, childlike joy at watching a story come to life. (Kinda makes me wonder how God must have felt at creation!) When the self-editor takes a nap during the first draft is probably the where the highest sense of enjoyment has the opportunity to come out and play.

What do you feel most when you create?

Congratulations to your little budding writer. How exciting! Surely you will keep and treasurre "World of Crimes" as a lifelong keepsake.

I feel excitement and amazement when I am creating; thanking God for giving me tools to achieve a sense of fulfillment.

I love the story from your DD! Go, girlie!!!

I remember that flush of joy that came from pounding out the words.

Now, I mostly feel the sense of accomplishment when I finish something, but there's still that joy simmering underneath everytime I get to disappear into my storyworld.

How sweet your daughter following your footsteps.

Pleasure while doing and accomplishment, satisfaction, and pride when I'm done.

I feel intensity. :-) And my emotions usually mirror whoever's I'm writing.
Sweet about her story! My 6 yr old loves making Spiderman stories. *grin*

That's great that your daughter is wanting to write!

I think I feel joy and excitement when I've got the ideas and the words are flowing freely. On the other side of the coin, I feel frustration when I can't think of ideas or anything...but then I'm sure everyone feels that too.

After becoming multi-published, its even harder to keep the joy because of the deadlines, the pressure, the "have to" aspect of it. But there is new joy in a new sense of accomplishment of realizing a lifelong dream, joy in getting paid, even if its just a little, to do what you love, etc. It all balances out at each stage of the writer's journey!! =)

I think my daughter started writing stories at 6! The pictures came first, then she had us write down the story for her. My favorite is STILL lightening strike to heaven. She just started another one for the little boy we sponsor in Africa. It is rewarding watching our children write just for the pure joy of it!

LOVE this!! Oh, Georgiana, how special she is!!!

Hmmm. I love having my pandora music blaring and my fingers flying and love and passion oozing all over the keys!

Even with these deadlines, it's been kinda fun in a weird way.

Nice to come outta the cave to say hi.
Kiss that daughter, okay? Maybe her creative fingertips!!!
