OR NOT SO SMART....

As much as I like to think of myself as a life long learner, I'm a 'fraidy freddy when it comes to anything do-it-yourself.

Take, for example, two weeks ago when we woke to a puddle in the bathroom next to the throne. While I was able to look up online what the problem likely was (wax ring) I didn't dare attempt to remove the unit myself. Dear hubby, bless his heart, wouldn't have another day off until the end of the week, and despite my pleading to call in the professionals he insisted he could, in fact, tackle the throne. In the meantime, we turned it off.

Fast forward four days....

Hubby finally had a day off. He turned the water to that area back on to see precisely where the water was coming from. And voila...

No leak.

It's been several days and the leak has not returned. Friends, we have a miracle toilet, and for that I am truly grateful.

Aside from the magic flusher, I'm still not a DIY'er. Case in point, this afternoon I have an appointment with a tax professional. Theoretically our taxes are super simple and I should be able to use Turbo Tax or some such program, rather than forking over $200. I'm skittesh about trying it, but I've been assured it's a no-brainer. Right now I'm gathering bits of courage to call and cancel the appointment.

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.

Are you a DIY'er? Do you venture into your own repairs? Do you (gulp) do your own taxes?

To a certain extent, we are DIY'ers here. But when it comes to plumbing and electricity, I call in the pros. Other less detrimental things, including taxes, we do ourselves.

Some things I'll attempt myself. Taxes I leave to Himself as he speaks Math fluently. He uses TaxCut. I was an English major and let him do anything remotely Math related

My husband is a DIY type. He's teaching my son. If it was just me, I'd be speed dialing a professional at the first hint of a toilet leak, a squeaky stair tread, or when the change oil light comes on in the van. :)

Taxes? NOPE! I have a professional. Thankfully, the same brilliant woman who helps me through the rigors of getting the business taxes all ship-shape.

We have a "tax lady" too! She's the best. Actually used to work for the IRS so that's helpful. She's cheap and fast too. And so accurate. It's wonderful. You know Hubby is a DIY'r, to the extreme max. I'm grateful

A miracle toilet! Yay! I love it.

We've done our taxes ourselves and we've paid professionals. I think it's wise to talk to people who can recommend a good tax preparer. Our current one found things TurboTax missed.

We are DIY'ers to the extreme... probably because it takes DAYS to get someone to come all the way out here. We've had good and bad experiences on both sides.

As for taxes, I've done our own on Turbo Tax for years. LOL, just the opposite of Jill... Turbo Tax found us refund money that two human accountants missed! My advice? Whatever you do, PRAY! : )
