WORRY WART WEDNESDAY
I could generate a year's worth of Worry Wart Wednesday columns. Don't tell me--I already know where we are supposed to take our fears, but I was born a worrier. You can't fight DNA!
The World Bank said food costs rose 15% from October to January. Depending on which sources you read, food prices are expected to make dramatic increases. While we have about a one month supply of food on hand, it's not nearly enough to ride out the wave. If we had a yard, and
didn't live on a mountain (details) we'd have a garden.
This is not the diet I was hoping for!
On top of the food situation, gas prices are on the rise again. (Like I needed to tell you that.) This will only compound the problem. We are sitting at $3.19/gal.
TWO QUESTIONS:
1. How much are you paying for a gallon of gas?
2. Are you concerned about food prices, and do you stock up?

Yesterday, gas was $3.15 in the central Massachusetts town where I live. We used to stock up on food, but with two girls in college I'm lucky to have a one month supply to work with on hand. I have plenty of room for a large garden, but I hate gardening!
Oh great. *sigh* I didn't know about the food thing. Bleck. Good news is I started tilling up the garden yesterday! And now I guess I should stock up a little on canned food.
I work at home, so gas prices aren't a huge issue. And Hubby just got hired for a job that's 2.5 miles from our home.
As for food, sigh. Prices are so high. It's crazy. But God is Jehovah Jireh. He is our provider. Even when our finances have been tight, He still provides. We haven't fallen behind at all. Continuing to trust His provision.
Georgiana, I recently started the "extreme" couponing shopping, and in a month I've saved about a hundred dollars.
I'm finding that I routinely save around a third of the shopping costs. So I'm doing the stockpiling, but only because I have coupons for something that's having a great sale.
Right now, it's toilet paper. Trying not to be too excited about that because, well, it's a bit odd. :)
LOL SALLY! LOLOL!
Gasoline here is at $3.10.
And we stock up on things that are on sale. I used to grocery shop every week, but I'm trying to make that every two weeks and stretch things out more now.
Gas here is $3.45 for premium, $3.25 for regular unleaded. $3.58 for diesel (hubby's truck). And our food prices locally are through the roof. We have to drive 45 miles one way to get to a REAL store. Gardening will not take place until the June thaw, and then I may have to sleep outside to keep the deer away! (Yeah, right, like that's gonna happen!)
I, too, come from a long line of professional (albeit unpaid) worriers. When the fear comes, I try to remind myself that as a citizen of heaven, we are subject to heaven's economy, not the world's. Keeps me from screaming "the sky is falling" and hiding under the bed. : )
Looks like we are all feeling the pinch! We'll go to Sally for TP when the time comes =P
In the deep South I am seeing gas prices from 2.99 to 3.10 right now. I am a single girl so I don't really stock up on anything but bottled water. lol
YES, I am a "coupon mom" fan. Lately its been harder to find good deals even with the couponing though...grocery prices have been rising a lot. I usually try to buy 3 months worth of a product if the sale is good (if its a canned or boxed good).
Erica, you're laughing with me and not at me, right? And no, the TP is ALL MINE!!!!
