DON'T PANIC!
It's my tendency to panic when I fear a situation isn't going to go down the way I planned. Don't ask me how I remember this sketch from the 80's--I only saw it once--but this epitomizes panicking for no reason.
Over the last few days I've come to realize I have a huge fear of failure. Out of desperation, I signed up for a program called The Lord's Table to help with my weight (more on that another day.) Due to some emerging health problems, I had to take action, but I fear that this will be another try and fail situation, and it terrifies me (imagine my hair flapping like the people in the skit!)
Prior to beginning this program, the kidlets and I started memorizing Psalm 34 (my 6 year old calls it Palsums, LOL! The kids are up to verse 7 now.) and it fits perfectly with where I'm at. I didn't choose Psalm 34 on purpose, either. It was next in line in the Bible program I'm using for the kids. Definitely a God thing.
If you have a situation you're trying not to fret over, chew on this scripture:
I sought the Lord, and He answered me, and saved me from all my fears. (PS 34:4)
Then it goes on to say in verse 6:
This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him and saved him from all his troubles.
Talk about being poor in spirit--right now that's me! Evidently that's a blessed place to be, even though it doesn't feel like it.
Have you ever battled fear? What's in your arsenal?

Yes I battle fear and have my whole life. But like you I see it as a lack of faith in myself. I could tell an entire story about this but won't in this comment. Except to say that faith does cast out fear, for sure!
You are definitely not alone. I'm also battling frustration, a partner of fear, I think. I find it helps to find the funny in any situation. And deep down I know that things will work out the way they are supposed to whether I hurry them along with gnawing on my fingernails and banging my head or not.
Definitely! Psalm 56:3 "What time I am afraid I will trust in Thee." That's gotten me through a lot.
Me too. I've struggled with fear my entire life. Lately God has been telling me to stop striving and surrender the fears to Him. I even posted about it today at Inkwell Inspirations!
I memorized Psalm 91 years ago, and it continues to carry me through a lot of fretful/fearful situations.
Blessings to you! And peace that passes ALL understanding.q
I have this constant fear of being disappointed. Not by other people, but that my own desires will be thwarted. It's not healthy! God does take our burdens.
I know you're going to do great with your weight! Check out Julie Hadden's book. She was a finalist on the Biggest Loser. She's also a Christian stay-at-home mom and I'm telling you her story inspired me on every level.
Karen, you are so right about faith overcoming fear.
LOL, CJ--I totally do the gnawing and head banging thing too until I catch myself.
Bets, great verse. The kids and I memorized it a while back and I love it.
Niki, Psalm 91 is one of my all-time favorites!
THanks for the book recommendation, Jill! I'm taking note.
Oh, wow!
There's a typed Plan of Action over my computer that reminds me Who is in control, Who is merciful, Whose love endures forever.
Soaking up those scriptures always soothes my fraved nerve endings.
So glad to hang out here! I've missed you!
